Mental Health Leadership

Leadership is defined as 'the ability to guide and influence individuals or groups towards achieving a common goal'. In a mental health sphere, this also includes the capacity to be an authentic version of yourself. For me, this is the only way of being which works to bring about the necessary change required to infer profound healing. Bringing this into a professional setting means healing the institutional setting as well as each life you touch through your leadership. It means through passive resistance that you crack open the 'normal' paradigms and offer up a refreshed sense of purpose that leads to meaningful, sustained change. Authentic leadership is 'a leadership style characterized by honesty, transparency, and acting in accordance with one's values and beliefs. This is what I offer in a mental health setting. The opportunity to be around and interact with someone who does not believe there is anything 'wrong' with them or their mental health even though she has experienced what society calls a 'serious' mental health diagnosis. I use this to make lasting institutional change, challenge stigmatizing practice, and promote risk tolerance when working in the mental health field. Contact me if this interests you.
