what is Mental Health?

I can only really comment on what Mental Health means to me at this stage. I will, as I progress do research into this and would love to hear from you to find out what you think it is as well. To me mental health is something we all have, we all have a mind and it opporates in different ways for different people. Some people have what is now called a Neurodivergance and for some reason we have seperated this from mental health. I wonder why we have done this and this is something I would like to explore more fully. We also have physical illnesses that are more accepted by society as an illness that is 'ok' in our culture. Mental Health however appears to be catagorised differently and seems to lead to a stigma in society. There are some mental health conditions which are more accepted such as Anxiety or Depression. Its now quite acceptable to tell people you have experienced anxiety or depression. This miight not quite be the case in terms of employment but certainly in society you can quite easily talk about anxiety and depression and receive a mostly dignified and respectful response. There are other mental health conditions such as sphycosis and schizophrenia that are very much less understood and receive less of a warm reception from society as a whole. This is to do with two things, stigma on behalf of society itself and the self stigmatization which occurs when you have had what is often refered to as a 'serious mental health diagnosis'. To me mental health needs to be treated in a more gentle and theraputic way, removing labels, reducing severity and opening up the current model to more openness and honesty. Mental Health is something we all have we just express it in different ways.
