What is Psychosis

For me, psychosis is a short break from reality where I think I am psychic because I can hear voices. The voices often start out pleasurable and then lead to something which is frightening. So it is quite an unusual experience. Ultimately, what makes me go to the hospital is that life becomes unmanageable because of it. I can't walk to the shop without being told I need to turn around or take a different route, or I can't go there in the first place. It all gets rather inconvenient. In medical terms, psychosis is a group of symptoms that lead someone to lose touch with reality. They can be hallucinations, delusions, disordered thinking, and disorganized behavior, or a combination. I will discuss these in more detail in other blog posts. The positive side of psychosis is that some really quite magical experiences can happen when you have an episode. It can and does affect absolutely anyone, and from my experience, they, the medical experts, don't actually know much about it. Like what causes it or why it happens when it happens. It is treatable, and if you have experienced psychosis, then there is an excellent chance you will come out of it and continue to lead a life you wish to lead. If this has happened in your life, then feel free to speak about it to others. Most people have almost no knowledge of psychosis, and we need to educate people as to what it is so that discrimination and fear are reduced.
